Known as America first sweetheart, she appeared in roughly 200 short and feature films and was the most famous woman in the world by 1918. She co founded United Artists in 1919 and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1927. Coquette 1929 won her the Academy Award for Best Actress. She received an honorary Oscar in 1976.
