Joined Saturday Night Live at nineteen in 1980, credited with reviving the show. 48 Hrs 1982, Trading Places 1983, and Beverly Hills Cop 1984, the top film of its year, made him the biggest box office star of the decade. Coming to America 1988 and The Nutty Professor 1996 followed. He received the Mark Twain Prize in 2015 and an Academy Award nomination for Dreamgirls 2006.
