His concert films Live in Concert 1979 and Live on the Sunset Strip 1982 redefined standup comedy as storytelling. He won five Grammy Awards for comedy albums between 1974 and 1982. He co wrote Blazing Saddles 1974, won a writing Emmy the same year, and received the first Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize in 1998. Richard Pryor Live in Concert was among the first commercially successful concert films.
